The name Fly Creek is Dutch in origin, named by the first Dutch traders who passed through the area. Harnessing the power of fast moving creeks, eight mills were built in Fly Creek in the 19th century. The last of these is the Fly Creek Cider Mill, a 161-year-old water-powered mill that is still open to visitors today. An important stop along the Cooperstown Beverage Trail, enjoy a glass of cider, enjoy harvest celebrations, special events, and attractions at the Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard. The hamlet boasts several restaurants, a grange that serves as a history center, Victorian homes and Heartworks Quilt and Fabric Shop. Just five minutes from Cooperstown, NY and a short drive to the college town of Oneonta, NY, enjoy fishing, birding and outdoor recreation along Fly Creek.
