Located at the southern tip of Otsego Lake, made famous by author James Fenimore Cooper’s The Leatherstocking Tales, the Cooperstown area terrain makes for perfect winter sporting, and the craft beverage scene is here for the after-party. With 16 road-access lakes, the mighty Susquehanna River, 20 New York State forests, and 5 New York State Parks in Otsego County, outdoor adventure opportunities are limitless. Hike or take your fat tire bike down the Sleeping Lion Trail at Glimmerglass State Park. Mid-winter, strap into your snowshoes or cross-country skis and traverse the area’s vast countrysides. After a morning out, warm up with a pint or two at one of our 9 breweries. Check out Brewery Ommegang where they are tapping kegs with Belgian-style beers inspired by Game of Thrones™ and, just may be offering ice skating.
Winter can also transform Otsego County into a snowmobiler's paradise with more than 300 miles of trails. Nor'easters and lake effect storms can deliver between 75 and 100 inches of snow in this area. When conditions permit, riders travel the county from Richfield Springs to Otego using the marked trail system for winter adventures through the open country. Local clubs mark, groom, and maintain the trails. Learn more at nysnowmobiler.com and check out the interactive NYS map by the New York State Snowmobile Association. If you are visiting from out of state, be sure to register your snowmobile.
