"Susan Fenimore Cooper", daughter of James Fenimore Cooper and early naturalist, will guide your guests through a tour of gardens at The Farmers" Museum – Children"s Garden and Miller Maze Garden (fun), Physic Garden of Thrall"s Pharmacy (medicine), Bump Tavern"s Downing Garden (flowers) and the Kitchen Garden at Lippitt Farmhouse (food). This formal, Italianate Renaissance garden celebrates a century in 2015. Located at an established estate (1820s), on the western shore of Otsego Lake, Brookwood Point hosts a diverse eco-system with meadows and fields, wetlands, lake frontage, a bubbling creek and historic cultivated gardens. Owned and carefully nurtured by the Otsego Land Trust, Brookwood"s 22 acres are a melting pot of wildlife. (One hour)
Hyde Hall is a stunning reminder of a bygone American era, when powerful families established vast estates with picturesque parks and gardens. Considered one of the finest examples of early neoclassical architecture in the United States, this elegant, 50-room limestone mansion offers sweeping views of Otsego Lake. With its original furnishings, one of the first water closets west of the Hudson River, central heating, and working vapor light chandeliers, Hyde Hall is a superb example of early 19th-century Anglo-American ingenuity.
